Job Description:

Family Guidance Centers, Inc. (FGC), a not-for-profit behavioral healthcare organization, treats and prevents substance abuse, as well as an array of other related problems. Since 1969, FGC's comprehensive programming has educated and guided individuals toward their full potential as productive members within their own families and our society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Individual, group, and family counseling, therapy, case management, and education. Counselors may meet with clients in individual, group, and family settings. Counselors may assist clients with a variety of problems but the primary focus of our agency is working with clients’ drug abuse problems.
  • Counselors may work with the drug-abuse clients on a variety of issues including vocational, cognitive, psychological, legal, social, cultural, life-style changes, behavioral changes as well as avoidance of their previous drug culture.
  • Counselors are responsible for intake assessments, initial treatment plans, as well as after-care and discharge planning. Treatment with clients will follow Federal as well as OASA regulations as well as treatment plans, goals, and objectives. Client treatment may include referrals to outside resources.
  • The client’s primary counselor will function as the focus point for client treatment at Family Guidance Centers. Most changes, modifications, and/or transitions in treatment for the clients will originate with the Counselor i.e. pick-up changes, etc.

Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

Saturday Rotation: 6:00 am - 1:00 pm

Experience and Skills:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s degree is required and two-years of substance abuse counseling or case management experience is preferred. Master's degree with a clinical internship is also preferred but not required. Preference will be given to those candidates with a Bachelor's degree, CADC, and some experience in social work program or another clinical program in a clinical field such as counseling, psychology, etc.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

IAODAPCA Certified Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselor is required or must be eligible to acquire it. State of Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred.

Salary Range: $32,000 - $34,000 annually
