Job Description:

Family Guidance Centers, Inc. (FGC), a not-for-profit behavioral healthcare organization, treats and prevents substance abuse, as well as an array of other related problems. Since 1969, FGC's comprehensive programming has educated and guided individuals toward their full potential as productive members within their own families and our society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Provides assistance to AVP of OMT for direct training, education and orientation to all new counseling staff allocated to the 310 W. Chicago Ave location
  • Participates in all scheduled interviews for full time staff and interns
  • Provides weekly individual and group supervision to all Master Level interns (-documents and provides feedback as required)
  • Reviews and makes recommendations for patients seeking re-instatements or re-admission; documents recommendation in patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Reviews carry bottle privilege requests; responsible for communicating requests via the medical alert system or through the case review system.
  • Responsible for processing patients transitioning (both internal and external) to a higher level of care.
  • Responsible for moving documents for patients transfer (site to site)
  • Participates in patients staffing’s and makes clinical recommendations
  • Responsible for coordinating acute detox referrals and follow up on all required paperwork

Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conducting individual, group and family counseling; also therapy, case management and patient education.
  • Responsible for completing intake assessments when assigned, initial treatment plans, as well as discharge planning and after-care options. Treatment may include referrals to outside sources.
  • Primary counseling functions are the focus point for patient treatment at FGC. Changes, modifications, and/or transitions in treatment for patients will originate with the primary counselor.
  • Responsible for intervening with patients and provide therapeutic services that lead to patient to become and stay free of illicit substances and lead a better life.
  • Counselors are expected to spend 50% of their work time in face to face counseling, contacts.
  • Caseloads vary depending on the content of the caseload and depend upon other supervisory responsibilities. Special population caseloads may be assigned based on the needs of the agency.
  • Responsible for completing Treatment plans, counseling, notes and intakes in FGC established time frames; responsible for all other paperwork concerning the patient.
  • Responsible for participating in regular staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Maintain a caseload of 40 patients (10 production hours per week).

Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Saturday Rotation based on caseload needs.

Experience and Skills:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related discipline from an accredited institution preferred. Master’s degree preferred, not required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: IAODAPCA Certified Alcohol and Other Drugs Counselor required. State of Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker preferred.

Salary Range: $38,000 - $41,000 annually
