Job Description:

Family Guidance Centers, Inc. (FGC), a not-for-profit behavioral healthcare organization, treats and prevents substance abuse, as well as an array of other related problems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Through case review and the supervisory process, help assess and support quality clinical care delivery.
  • Provide individual supervision at least twice monthly to substance use treatment staff and interns including; substance use counselors and interns, intake counselors, recovery support staff members, and mental health staff and interns. Interns and new staff will receive weekly individual supervision.
  • Provide group supervision twice monthly to clinical care teams at 310 W. Chicago Avenue ensuring input is aligned with FGC program and team goals.
  • Ensure supervision includes review of interventions and the clinician’s approach, clinical documentation, clinician’s use of evidence based practice, and adherence to FGC and applicable federal and state clinical guidelines.
  • Using a developmental supervisory model, provide structure for intervention planning appropriate to the clinician’s knowledge and experience.
  • Integrate FGC evidence-based practice goals into supervision, ensuring models such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and Trauma-Informed Care are demonstrated in interventions.
  • Observe group counseling sessions periodically and provide specific feedback and support regarding group content and process for groups.
  • Specifically address and consult with supervising VP, AVP for OMT and other colleagues as needed on clinical strategies that support patient engagement.
  • Review intake assessments for each assessment clinician and provide supervision related to providing quality clinical summaries. This includes hospital based assessment staff who provide assessments for 310 W. Chicago.
  • Assist in measuring clinical outcomes for the 310 W. Chicago programs by providing feedback on engagement, progress on abstinence, and progress in other domains needed for patient stability.
  • Provide crisis intervention, directly working with staff and patients when needed to assist a patient in immediate crisis (e.g. in need of hospitalization).
  • Coordinate the FGC tele-psychiatry referrals and processes for efficient use of those services and appropriate patient follow up.
  • Provide and document formal clinical competency reviews using FGC approved format and help staffs define learning and training needs as well as the development of future learning goals.
  • Document all individual and group supervision meetings using approved FGC format.
  • Ensure that clinical performance issues are brought to the attention of the supervising VP and other appropriate supervising leaders.
  • As part of risk management, ensure clear concise written reporting of any clinical incidents in consult with program leaders and forward to FGC Risk Management Officer.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing clinical training related to populations served and for ongoing integration of evidence-based practice.
  • Directly provide trainings as appropriate to FGC clinical staff and when appropriate other staff working with FGC patients (e.g. support staff).
  • Actively contribute to a culture of high level communication by clearly modeling active communication to staff and soliciting information and feedback from staff and sharing with the management team.
  • Serve as an effective role model for written and verbal communication.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but may be altered or redesigned, depending upon individual circumstances

Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with Saturday Rotation 6:00 am - 2:00 pm

Experience and Skills:

Education and/or Experience: Master’s degree in social work with clinical licensure is required. Clinically licensed candidates with a master’s degree in counseling or counseling psychology may also be considered. Candidates must have LCSW or LCPC licensure. Some experience with substance use treatment, mental health, and dual-diagnosis is required. Proven supervisory and clinical leadership experience preferred.


Certificates, Licenses and Registrations: State of Illinois State of Illinois Licensed Clinical Social Worker or State of Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor required. Clearance from CFS 689 Child Abuse and Neglect Tracking System.

Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 per year
