Job Description:

Family Guidance Centers, Inc. (FGC), a not-for-profit behavioral healthcare organization, treats and prevents substance abuse, as well as an array of other related problems. *** $600.00 SIGN ON BONUS*** $300 after 30 days of employment and $300 after 6 months of continuous employment


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Prepares food to be served using established production procedures and systems, implementing dietitian and physician instructions.
  • Sets steam table; serves or ensures proper serving of food for tray line or dining room.
  • Works cooperatively with other cooks in evaluating cafeteria leftovers and plans for use; labels, dates, and stores leftovers properly.
  • Consults production sheets for thawing and doing advance preparation when possible; completes and posts sign-up sheets daily.
  • Stores food properly and safely, marking date and item.
  • Assists Lead Cook with the development and standardization of recipes, including creating new ways to present food attractively and nutritiously; corrects amounts; cost-conscious manner for patients and staff.
  • Assists Lead Cook with planning cooking schedule to have food prepared on time; serves hot food attractively and efficiently.
  • Implements diet changes, prepares saved trays and sack lunches.
  • Keeps work area clean and sanitizes work surfaces; mops floors according to procedure; takes out trash as needed; performs assigned cleaning duties.
  • Completes food temperature checks before service.
  • Prepares and serves food for special functions as assigned.

Number of Position Openings: 2

Schedule: Monday - Friday (10:00a - 6:30p) with weekend rotation

Start Date: ASAP

Experience and Skills:

Must be knowledgeable in operating standard commercial kitchen equipment including oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, etc.

Education and/or Experience: High school graduate preferred. At least two years of institutional food service experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Illinois Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation Certification.
