Job Description:

Family Guidance Centers, Inc. (FGC), a not-for-profit behavioral healthcare organization, treats and prevents substance abuse, as well as an array of other related problems. Since 1969, FGC's comprehensive programming has educated and guided individuals toward their full potential as productive members within their own families and our society.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare food to be served using established production procedures and systems, implementing dietitian and physician instructions.
  • Set steam table; serve or ensure proper serving of food for tray line or dining room.
  • Works cooperatively with other cooks in evaluating cafeteria leftovers and plans for use; labels, dates, and stores leftovers properly.
  • Consults production sheets for thawing and doing advance preparation when possible; completes and posts sign-up sheets daily.
  • Stores food properly and safely, marking date and item.
  • Assists Lead Cook with the development and standardization of recipes, including creating new ways to present food attractively and nutritiously; corrects amounts; cost-conscious manner for patients and staff.
  • Assists Lead Cook with planning cooking schedule in order to have food prepared timely, but not too far in advance; serves hot food attractively and efficiently.
  • Apportions food for serving.
  • Keeps work area clean and sanitizes work surfaces; conducts cleaning activities according to procedure.

Number of Position Openings: 1

Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (12:00p - 6:30p), with weekend rotation (6:00a - 6:00p)

Experience and Skills:

Education and/or Experience: High school graduate preferred. At least two years of institutional food service experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Illinois Department of Public Health Food Service Sanitation Certification.
