Job Description:

Metropolitan Preparatory and Laureate Day School serve students ages five to twenty-one who have experienced limited success in traditional special education programs.  Our students have been identified as having a(n) Emotional/Behavioral Disorder (ED/BD), Learning Disability (LD), Other Health Impairment (OHI), Autism and/or  Developmental Delay (DD) by the public school and Section 14-7.02 of the Illinois School Code (105 ILCS 5/14-7.02). 

  Daily Responsibilities:

  • To collaborate with co-workers in the implementation of the IEP.
  • To assist staff in crisis intervention and physical management as needed.
  • To develop curriculum to meet each student’s individual needs as indicated on the IEP.
  • To maintain an updated IEP for each student.
  • To complete an educational summary for each student quarterly and upon completion dismissal of the program.
  • To prepare quarterly report cards.
  • To attend staffing as required.
  • To participate in weekly planning and prepare for at least one week at a time.
  • To maintain attendance, grade book and lesson plans for each student
  • To maintain and upkeep an inventory of classroom materials.
  • To be responsible for classroom maintenance/organization, classroom rules (posted), point sheets (if applicable), peer review, etc.
  • To maintain a substitute file containing: lesson, plans, class rules, class procedures, and any other material needed to run your classroom on a daily basis.
  • To chaperone field trips as needed.
  • To monitor students during lunch.
  • Other duties as assigned

Regular School Year Schedule : Monday - Friday (8:00a - 3:30p)

Summer Session Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (8:00a - 12:30p); Wednesday (8:00a - 3:30p)


Experience and Skills:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS) 1, TCI
